Lethal Company Codexery

The Spider

Eight legs, zero mercy, and a hunger that outlasts your scrap quota.

The Spider is one of the larger, more menacing entities that stalks the moons of Lethal Company's distant system. Where the smaller Scamper is a quick nuisance, the Spider is a full-bodied predator: a hulking, multi-limbed arachnid that moves with unsettling patience and strikes with brutal force. It is a sight that sends even veteran Company employees scrambling for cover or a weapon.

In the broader ecosystem of moon-dwelling horrors, the Spider occupies the role of a mid-to-high-tier threat. It is not as ubiquitous as the Faceless or the Hound, but its presence on a moon's roster signals a significant escalation in danger. Encountering one means the run's risk profile has shifted, and the Company's thin profit margins suddenly look very fragile.

Lore & Background

The moons the Company operates on are not empty. They are ecosystems, strange and hostile, shaped by gravity and geology that have no business existing in a human solar system. The Spider evolved—or was seeded, or simply *grew*—in the dark crevices of these worlds, its body plan a perfect adaptation for hunting in low-light industrial ruins and cavernous rock formations. Its legs are long and jointed, allowing it to traverse vertical surfaces and ceilings with a fluidity that makes it nearly impossible to track once it leaves the ground.

Company records, such as they are, treat the Spider with a grim pragmatism. It is not a mystery to be solved; it is a hazard to be avoided or, failing that, put down with a shotgun blast before it reaches you. The creatures do not seem to hunt in coordinated packs the way the Hounds do, but a single Spider is enough to end a run. Its bite is fast, its reach is longer than players expect, and its ability to reposition above you turns every corridor into a three-dimensional kill zone.

Fans of the game often note the Spider's design as a masterclass in tension: it is large enough to feel genuinely dangerous, fast enough to punish hesitation, yet slow enough that a calm player with a clear line of sight can still put it down. That narrow window between 'I can kill it' and 'it is on top of me' is where Lethal Company's horror lives.

In Their Own Story

The radio crackles. Four voices, breathing hard, the smell of rust and cold metal in the air.

"Spidey on the ceiling, east corridor," Marcus says. His voice is flat. Controlled. The kind of flat that means he's already calculating whether the shotgun has enough shells left.

Jules doesn't answer. She's backing toward the loading dock, her boots scraping gravel, and above her—above all of them—the legs are already moving. Eight of them. Clicking against the concrete like a metronome counting down. The body is a dark smear against the fluorescent flicker, too big, too *wrong* for the geometry of the room.

"Don't look up," Marcus says. "Keep your eyes on the floor. Walk. Don't run. It tracks movement."

They walk. Slowly. The clicking follows, patient, unhurried, as if it has all the time the universe will ever give it. And maybe it does. Maybe the Company doesn't care if they make it back to the ship. Maybe the scrap is worth more than four sets of lungs.

The Spider's mandibles open. The sound is wet and close.

Marcus fires.

Reader's Guide

The Spider is a large, multi-legged arachnid with a dark, segmented body and long, jointed limbs that let it move across floors, walls, and ceilings. It is noticeably bigger than the Scamper and reads as a serious threat the moment you spot it.

It tracks you primarily through movement and proximity. If you stand still and break line of sight, it will often pause or slow, giving you a few seconds to reposition. However, it is not blind: if you run in a straight line, it will follow. It lunges quickly when it closes distance, and its reach extends well beyond what its body size suggests, especially when it is above you on a ceiling or wall.

Noise and sustained movement are the primary lures. Sprinting, firing a weapon, or even heavy footsteps can draw it toward your position. Standing still in a narrow corridor or behind a solid object is the most reliable way to lose it temporarily. There is no known repel item; your best tools are distance, cover, and a loaded shotgun or pistol.

Its main weakness is that it is a single target. A well-aimed shot to the body will put it down. It does not regenerate mid-encounter, and it does not call reinforcements. The danger is the approach, not the fight itself.

Field note: "If you hear the clicking on the ceiling, do NOT look up. Walk. Keep your eyes low. It will pass. It almost always passes. — M., 4th shift, Moon 7"
