Lethal Company Codexery

The Snake

A slithering shadow in the dark, coiling toward the sound of your boots.

The Snake is one of the earliest hostile entities players encounter in Lethal Company. A long, narrow, serpentine creature that stays low to the ground, it patrols the metal corridors and open floors of specific moons, drawn by the sounds of your footsteps and the clatter of dropped scrap. It is not the most dangerous thing on the roster, but in a tight hallway with limited visibility, that wet, dragging slither is enough to make your hands shake on the trigger.

As a low-tier threat, The Snake serves as an introduction to the game's core survival loop: stay quiet, manage your noise, and decide whether to fight or flee. It rewards caution and punishes reckless sprinting, teaching new players that sound is the currency of danger in the Company's moons.

Lore & Background

The moons the Lethal Company strips for scrap are not empty. They are ecosystems, however alien and hostile, and The Snake occupies a low rung in that food web. It is not intelligent in any way players can read; it does not plan, does not coordinate, does not remember. It simply moves, senses vibration and sound, and strikes at whatever is close enough to bite. In the Company's internal logs it is catalogued as a nuisance rather than a true threat, a creature you can outrun or outlast if you keep your discipline.

What makes The Snake memorable to players is not its lethality but its presence. In the dim, flickering light of a corridor, that long body sliding along the floor with a soft, wet drag is a constant low-grade reminder that the moon is watching. It does not need to kill you to make you check over your shoulder every few seconds. For a new crew hauling scrap through a dark industrial complex, that psychological pressure is its own kind of weapon.

Among the broader roster of entities the Company faces, The Snake sits at the entry level. Players who have survived its moons and moved on to the Hounds, the Stalkers, and the larger horrors often look back on it with a mix of relief and faint nostalgia. It was the first thing that made them learn to walk softly, to hold their breath, to listen before they moved. In that sense, it is the moon's first lesson.

In Their Own Story

The corridor was dark past the third junction, the overhead lights flickering in a slow, dying rhythm. Maren had told them to keep to the left wall, to move slow, to not drop a single canister. Easy to say. Easy to forget when your boots are already ringing off the metal grating.

She heard it before she saw it. That sound—low, wet, rhythmic—like something heavy and long dragging itself across the floor. Her flashlight beam caught the edge of it first: a narrow head, a body stretching back into the dark, undulating in that slow, patient wave. It had stopped. It was listening.

Maren froze. Her breath came in a thin, controlled thread. The thing's head swiveled a few degrees, tracking the last echo of her footsteps. Three seconds. Four. The body resumed its slither, sliding past the junction and deeper into the black.

She didn't move for another full minute. Then, very slowly, she stepped over the canister she'd dropped and kept walking.

Reader's Guide

The Snake — a long, thin, serpentine body with a narrow head, slithering low to the ground.

It moves in a slow, undulating slither along the floor. It does not fly or climb. When it spots you, it accelerates and lunges in a quick strike, then retreats a short distance before coiling again. It is most dangerous in tight corridors where you cannot gain distance.

What lures it: any sustained noise. Running, dropping scrap, or firing a weapon nearby will draw it toward the sound. It follows the noise source for a few seconds before losing interest.

What repels it: silence. If you stop moving and hold still, it will lose focus after a moment and resume its patrol. It is not as persistent or aggressive as later-tier entities.

Known weaknesses: it is ground-bound, so elevated positions are safe. It can be lured away from your team or into open areas where you have clear line of sight. A few well-placed shots will dispatch it, but on a moon with multiple threats it is rarely the priority.

Field note: "I heard it before I saw it — that wet, dragging sound on the metal floor. Don't panic. Stop. Breathe. It'll pass. Just don't let it hear you drop a single canister."
